Passion Play pictures Major CPA productions

Over the last ten years CPA has been involved in supporting worship in local churches and also special seasonal events (such as Christmas concerts and Easter services). In this time, however, the highlights have been a number of major productions . . . this page gives brief summaries of each of them. More information is available on request (and in some cases, faded videos / DVDs even exist!)

  Hopes and Dreams
June 22nd - 24th 2000, Priory Centre
In 1999, a group of Christians from various churches throughout St Neots got together to perform this production, based on the musical written by Rob Frost. The show was written to celebrate the new millennium and was directed by Lindsay Townley, stage managed by Allan Dixon and involved a cast of over 100 actors, dancers and singers. To the surprise of nearly everyone, the show played to about 900 people over four performances in the Priory Centre, and such was the positivity of the feedback that the group decided to form 'St Neots Christian Performing Arts' . . . .

 Time for Everything
October 18th - 19th 2002, Priory Centre
Written by Simon Cooper and directed by Lindsay Townley, 'A Time for Everything' was a musical loosely based on the beautiful passage in the book of Ecclesiastes Ch 3, vv 1-8. Using contemporary songs, sketches and musical items, the show looked at various 'times' and - again - over three performances was received by large enthusiastic audiences. It seemed sensible to try and put on a large 'production' every 2 years to supplement the work that CPA did in supporting worship in churches and at special events.

  Here and Now
July 1st - 3rd, 2004, Priory Centre
Rob Frost's follow up to 'Hopes and Dreams' was 'Here and Now', a musical based around Jesus's Sermon on the Mount. The show followed a similar mix of music, sketches and dance to 'Hopes and Dreams', and a different team produced this show; Prue Gardiner was Producer and Director, and the show was stage managed by Brian Moroney. Joyce Brown led the music - as indeed she has done for every one of CPA's major productions.

 Cargo
13th - 15th March 2008, Priory Centre
After a few years of doing church based shows, CPA returned to the Priory Centre in 2008 with a production of 'Cargo', a musical written by Paul Field to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. Directed by Lindsay Townley, the show was a lot 'heavier' than other productions, concentrating not just on the work of abolitionists, but also looking at examples of modern day slavery.

  The St Neots Passion Play
April 4th, 2010, St Neots Town Centre
The most ambitious production yet, the St Neots Passion Play took over the whole of St Neots Town Centre on Easter Sunday 2010, and produced a moving account of the Passion of Christ to 1000 people. The show moved around town, starting on Town Bridge and then moving between the Market Square, Priory Lane car park, St Anselm Place before returning to the Market Square for the crucifixion, and finishing at the Riverside Park for the resurrection scenes. More information and pictures to be found on this page.
